Via Crucis

Via Crucis - 42019 Scandiano

Gradually rising toward the courtyard of the Capuchin church, the fourteen stations of the Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) are situated along this path. The small shrines, with bas-reliefs in polychromatic stucco, are supported by slender columns set on square bases that hold the inscriptions of the respective stations. They were designed and created in 1939 by Professor Francesco Lodesani and situated on the site of five sacred chapels dedicated to the mysteries of the Passion of Christ which had been built in 1638 and demolished in 1876.

How to get there:
By car:
from the A1 motorway Reggio Emilia exit (distance 16 km), take the SS 467 mainroad towards Scandiano-Sassuolo - then turn right past the Tresinaro bridge and follow the signs to the town centre. Then take the fifth street on the left and immediately afterward the first on the left.
From Modena, take the SS 486 "Passo delle Radici" road towards Sassuolo, then at Veggia take the SS 467 road towards Scandiano-Reggio Emilia, then turn left before the Tresinaro bridge, take the fifth street on the left and then the first street on the left.
Park your car in Via Garibaldi and continue on foot, taking the third street on the right

By train: local trains to Scandiano-Sassuolo which leave from the Reggio Emilia Railway Station; there is also a local bus service.
