Its territory extends on both sides of the Via Emilia, starting from the detention basins of Secchia River where is a Natural Park. It's an important industrial center.
XVI-century monumental complex; it was built to give shelter to wayfarers and pilgrims along the via Emilia near the ford formed by the Secchia river.

The Fortress
The fortress presented a formidable fortified layout comprising a compact quadrangular structure with central courtyard, articulated in four imposing scarp wall bastions.
Apse and bell tower
Fifteenth-century bell tower and medieval apse. Only the external structures can be viewed.
Altarpiece dedicated to San Rocco
The Oratory of the Santissima Annunziata (Our Lady of the Assumption) in Rubiera has an altar and altarpiece dedicated to San Rocco, the 14th-century saint believed to provide protection from the plague.

Altarpiece painted in the eighteenth century, it has been restored in 1996/97, and during restoration works it was ascertained to be a big canvas of Giacomo Bolognini

Due to the wonderful wealth of plant and animal life in this protected area, people have been using this precious semi-natural environment for leisure and cultural purposes even before it was officially declared as a nature reserve.
