Historical notes

All that remains of the ancient church of Rubiera, which appeared in 1302 with the name San Donnino e San Biagio, is the semi-circular medieval apse, decorated with pilaster strips that support a cornice with overlapping arches, and on the roof the tall bell tower built at the end of the 15th century. The church had east-west orientation, with a single nave, five chapels on one side and four on the other. Along the Via Emilia, a portico extended which served as a cemetary. Abandoned as pastoral office in 1720, it continued to be officiated until 1738, when it was reduced to use as a cemetary, then transformed into a hay barn in 1822 and to a residential dwelling in 1847.
