Giarèda Festival

Trade fair for artistic and traditional crafts. In corso Garibaldi and piazza Gioberti.

September 8, 2020

Festival dedicated to the "Blessed Ghiara Virgin", which takes place every year in early September. Solemn liturgical services are held as well as the trade fair for artistic and traditional crafts which extends for the whole length of corso Garibaldi. Concerts, shows, masses.

Four centuries of history, faith and culture. The profound link between the city of Reggio Emilia and the Ghiara Basilica finds its roots in the distant past. The area around the Basilica of the Blessed Ghiara Virgin is enlivened with events programmed for the traditional "dlà Giareda" festival which has been revived for over 30 years. This festival catalyzed the religious and social interests of the Reggio community in the period between the XVII century and 1861. In that year, exactly May 6, a disastrous snowfall destroyed the festival structures and the festival was suspended. The festival, celebrated once again in 1980, takes place every year and hosts important commercial, artistic and cultural initiatives. It takes place in the open air, along corso Garibaldi, in the town centre.
