Tricolour Flag Museum

Tricolour Flag Museum

The Tricolour Flag Museum is hosted inside the seat of the Municipality, in the rooms next to the Tricolour Flag Hall. The original core of the collection was created by Gaetano Chierici and then enlarged by Naborre Campanini. Historian Ugo Bellocchi (who recreated the model of the first flag, based on documents, in 1966) first had the idea of a Museum dedicated to the Tricolour Flag. Between 1985 and 1987 the Collection had its first seat in some rooms next to the Tricolour Flag Hall, but only with the celebration of the Bicentenary of the birth of the Tricolour Flag, January 7, 1997, there was the real impulse to create a Museum and a new display.

January 7, 2004 the President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi inaugurated the first section of the Museum dedicated to the Napoleonic period. The second section was opened in 2006 and hosts original documents and relics related to the historical events of italian Risorgimento up to 1897, year of the celebration of the first Centennial of the Birth of the Tricolour Flag.
A new section of the Museum was inaugurated by President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella January 7, 2017, on the occasion of the 220th anniversary of the birth of the Tricolour Flag.
