Historical notes

Ex- Locatelli, outside

In the first industrial area born in the north of the town, among the various well-made complexes, one of the most significant settlements is certainly the one that hosted Locatelli, a brand of which Reggio Emilia is proud, an important part in the history of the town. The Locatelli buildings, the result of an intelligent industrial architecture of the 1920s, were purchased by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia to host the "International Centre for the culture and creativity of boys and girls" as commitment of all citizens and public institutions.

The Centre - dedicated to Loris Malaguzzi, the pedagogist initiator and animator of the Reggio Emilia educational experience - is a meeting place for children and families, researchers and teachers, administrators and entrepreneurs but also as a particular opportunity for innovation and transformation of a space important of Reggio Emilia.
Inaugurated in February 2006, it has a total area of about 12,000 square metres and includes: workshops, exhibition areas for permanent and temporary exhibitions, places for training and research, meeting and conference rooms, documentation and research centre, a bar-restaurant, a kindergarten and a primary school as well as the Reggio Children headquarters.
