Michael Kenna: the Po river

Personal exhibition of the English photographer Michael Kenna (1953). At Palazzo Ducale, via Gonzaga 16.

October 16, 2021 - January 6, 2022

On display are 100 black-and-white photos taken from 2007 to 2019, from the source to the mouth of the largest Italian river, from the Piedmontese mountains to the Adriatic shores across the plains of the Po River Valley.

The images describe the long familiarity between the English photographer and “a dear, old and wise friend”, as the artist defines the Po river.

The characteristic of the great English photographer is that he develops important photographic projects over many years, and then leads to their publication. In this case, the first photos of the Po River date back to 2007, when Kenna was invited to photograph the Reggio Emilia area in view of the great anthological exhibition “Images of the seventh day” at Palazzo Magnani in 2010 in Reggio Emilia.
