Antonio Ligabue Museum Foundation

The museum hosts copies of pictures by the Naive-Art painter Antonio Ligabue (Zurich 1899 - Gualtieri 1965), documents concerning his life, as well as Tirelli Donation (collection of theatre costumes).

Fondazione Museo Antonio Ligabue

Fees and Opening times

On the centenary of the arrival of Antonio Ligabue in Gualtieri (1919-2019), the permanent museum is reopened with a selection of 21 oils of great value and a unique documentary heritage. From December the Palazzo observes the winter break.

Timetable 2020

Reopening of Palazzo Bentivoglio and Museo Ligabue from Saturday 22/02/2020. On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 Palazzo Bentivoglio and Museo Ligabue will be free of charge and can be visited at the following times: 10-13 / 15-19.

From 29/02/2020 Museo Ligabue and Palazzo Bentivoglio will observe the following days and opening hours:

  • SATURDAY 10-13 / 15-19 (last entry at 6pm)
  • SUNDAY AND HOLIDAYS 10-19 (last entry at 6pm)

During weekdays, the Palazzo and Museum are closed to the public, except for organized groups (minimum 12 people).

Tickets: full € 7 / reduced € 5 / Free for children 0-7 years, visitors with disabilities and journalists registered with the identification card.
Guided tours are only made by reservation (one week in advance) and cost € 30.

How to get there

By car: from A1 motorway exit (distance Km. 23): main road (SS63) direction Gualtieri; from Reggio Emilia provincial road direction Bagnolo, Novellara, Guastalla, Gualtieri.
By bus: from Reggio Emilia bus terminal (CIM, Europa square) bus 3I87 SETA.
By train: from Parma railway station: Parma-Suzzara.

Historical notes

There are original works, such as pictures, graphic works and sculptures, as well as copies of pictures, it hosts copies of pictures by the painter as well as various documents and objects concerning the artist, creator of charming and phantastic images, sometimes called "wild", "crazy", "damned", "instinctive", "lonesome": Antonio Ligabue is now defined by most of Italian art critics and historians as an ingenious artist of the popular figurative culture, inspired by the XIX° century tradition.It is possible to watch original films on the painter.
