Dorando Pietri

Dorando Pietri, also known as Dorando Petri (Correggio, October 16, 1885 - Sanremo, February 7, 1942), was an Italian athlete who went down in history for the dramatic epilogue of the Marathon at the London Olympic Games of 1908.

He first cut the finish line, supported by court judges who had assisted him after seeing him stagger several times, exhausted by fatigue.

He was disqualified and lost the gold medal, but the pictures and story of his arrival handed him to the history of lathletics.
