This position is of historical importance in the Matilda of Canossa area. Inside its walls there is a small church dedicated to St. John.

Close to the castle can be found the Tana della Mussina, a natural hollow in which interesting archaeological remains have been found.

In July 2008 it was put on an archaeological exibition in the local Centre for Enviromental Education, in Borzano, at via Guido Chierici 2.
